SUMMARY:

This research had the objective of proposing a way of using the problem as an inducer of/in the mathematics learning process in order to favor the cognitive development and meaningful learning of this discipline in the 6th/7th grade classes of elementary school. The theoretical-methodological foundation was supported by elements: Alsubel's Meaningful Learning Theory, Vergnaud's conceptual fields theory and Bloom's revised taxonomy by Anderson et al. the use of problems were used as bibliographic support, most of them Brazilian (Onuchic, Andrade, Onuchic and Allevato) and one from the international literature (Jinfa Cai). The methodology used with a qualitative approach, characterized as exploratory, demanded different procedures and instruments. The field research scenario consists of a public school in the Federal District and the sample of approximately 70 students from the 6th/7th grade. The methodological formatting of this thesis differs from the traditional one, since the research is structured in three stages. In the first stage are the theoretical studies, which will support the intervention proposal, subdivided into five. In the second, the studies from the intervention of the field research, subdivided into three. In the third stage, a closing study based on the results of the interventions in the second stage, supported by the theoretical studies of the first stage. This arrangement was possible due to the adopted methodological format, the multipaper. In order to carry out the field research intervention, which constitutes the focus of the investigation, the five theoretical studies of the first stage were developed, whose results and considerations were presented in the respective chapters
