SUMMARY:

This research, entitled "Connection with Nature and Human Values: An Exploratory Study with Rural Students in Ceilândia, Federal District," focuses on investigating how rural education can strengthen students' relationship with nature, fostering ecological attitudes and behaviors aligned with fundamental human values. Considering the importance of the Cerrado as the region's predominant biome and its socio-environmental relevance, the aim is to analyze how the curriculum and pedagogical practices encourage critical environmental awareness and the adoption of sustainable behaviors in schools and communities. The research aims to understand how human values (especially universalism, benevolence, conservation, and self-promotion) influence students' perceptions of local and global environmental problems, as well as their ecological attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, the aim is to identify pedagogical practices that foster connection with nature in rural schools and how this relationship contributes to the development of critical, sensitive, and transformative environmental awareness. Using a mixed-method approach, the research combines quantitative and qualitative instruments, semi-structured interviews, participant observation, reflective journaling, and the administration of ecological behavior and human values scales for children. The results of this research are expected to support the development of educational practices that are more connected to the socioenvironmental reality of students and grounded in human values, contributing to the development of a culture of sustainability.
