SUMMARY:

The thesis project focuses on teacher education and university extension, narrowing the emphasis of this relationship to the extension projects developed by the teaching degree programs at the University of Brasília. It is linked to the Research Line: Teaching Profession, Curriculum, and Evaluation of the Graduate Program in Education at the Faculty of Education of the University of Brasília. The guiding question is: What elements of the formative process in university extension contribute to an emancipatory project for social subjects? The general objective is to understand and analyze the dialectical relationship between conception, practices, and the formative process of extension in teaching degrees, aiming at the possibilities and challenges for emancipatory teacher education. The specific objectives are: to identify the conceptions of university extension and what is said about teacher education in theses, dissertations, articles, events, and legislation from 2019 onward; to identify and analyze the conceptions of extension and teacher education present in the Pedagogical Course Projects (PPCs) of teaching degree programs across the five regions of Brazil, with a focus on the teaching degrees at UnB; to map and identify the actions, projects, and university extension programs of the UnB teaching degree programs that are related to teacher education; to identify and analyze the conceptions, challenges, and possibilities attributed by students, teachers, and coordinators to university extension as a space for training. To achieve the proposed objectives, the theoretical and methodological foundation is based on dialectical historical materialism, seeking dialogue and primarily referencing Marx and Engels (2007), Kosik (2002), Frigotto (2000), Gramsci (1999), and Cury (2000). In this challenge, we will focus on the extension activities of the teaching degree programs at UnB, with the research subjects being students, teachers, and coordinators of these extension activities. The study will only consider projects and programs within the various modalities of extension activities. As methodological strategies and instruments for data collection and construction, we have chosen: a bibliographic review; a documentary analysis of the guiding documents for extension and the Pedagogical Course Projects (PPCs) of the teaching degrees; a questionnaire for participants in extension activities; interviews with the teachers and coordinators of the programs and projects. As initial considerations, we will argue for the possibility of considering university extension as a function that, based on teaching and research, constitutes a space for the formation of organic intellectuals alongside the working and/or subordinate class. For this, we will draw on the theoretical constructs of Gramsci (1995, 1982, 1999, 2001) and Paulo Freire (1967, 1981, 1983, 1987, 2001) to discuss extension as a dimension of initial teacher education, anchoring ourselves in the epistemology of praxis. We will use theoretical constructs and principles to think about a new epistemology/conception of extension: dialogue; culture; the formation of self-consciousness; cultural circles; the historical bloc: structure and superstructure; the unity of theory and practice; and the ethical-political dimension
