SUMMARY:

This research project focuses on the theme of evaluation within the scope of educational public policies, considering the contemporary debates surrounding this relevant subject. Its overall objective is to investigate how the management of public schools in the Lower Secondary Education (final years) in the Federal District (DF) mediates the use of instruments and results from the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb) in pedagogical practices, with the aim of enhancing the quality of education. To achieve this objective, the method of historicaldialectical materialism will be adopted, which involves an analysis based on the dialectical interpretation of facts, taking into account the historical context and identifying the contradictions present in the object of study. As a research strategy, a multiple case study will be used, employing a mixed approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods. The analysis will focus on three schools under the State Department of Education of the Federal District (SEEDF), located in the Administrative Region of Taguatinga. Document analysis and semi-structured interviews will be conducted, involving school administrators (local management), a representative from the intermediate management, in this case, the Regional Education Coordination of Taguatinga (CRET), and a representative from SEEDF (central management), in order to collect the necessary data for the research. The collected information will be treated through content analysis, aiming to achieve the five established specific objectives: i) present the historicity of Saeb, encompassing its purposes and action strategies; ii) analyze the level of theoretical and methodological proficiency of school administrators in assimilating and using Saeb instruments and results; iii) identify the challenges faced by management of public schools in the Lower Secondary Education in the Federal District regarding the use of Saeb instruments and results, related to pedagogical practices; iv) investigate the strategies adopted by school management to enhance the quality of education based on Saeb data; and v) present the contradictions related to the meaning of Saeb's evaluative public policy for school management, considering the mediations carried out in pedagogical practices. Based on the results obtained, it is expected to contribute to a better understanding, improvement, and articulation of the relationship between Saeb's public evaluation policy and pedagogical practices aimed at improving educational outcomes in public schools in the Lower Secondary Education in the Federal District.
