Faith in Education. Evangelical power project and educational policies
Public education; Evangelicals; National Congress; Educational Policies; Pentecostalism
The educational legislative propositions, presented by evangelical parliamentarians in the Brazilian National Congress, are part of a movement that replaces Christian religious principles at the center of political debate in Brazil. When they are constituted as one of the pillars that underlie the project of evangelical political power, such propositions are not limited to moral issues, but start from them to acquire legitimacy and social capillarity. In this sense, this research project aims to identify how the Pentecostal theological elements materialize in educational legislative propositions that were presented by evangelical parliamentarians during the 55th and 56th legislatures in the House of Representatives and in the Federal Senate. As specific objectives we intend to: characterize the constituent elements of this project of political power; To carry out a survey of educational legislative propositions proposed by members of the evangelical bench and identify the presence of Prosperity Theology, Domain Theology and Spiritual Battle Theology in such propositions. Methodologically, the concept of deprivatization of religion is used to interpret the process of constitution of this power project and the concepts of conservatism and hegemony to affirm that the evangelical protagonism in the proposition of educational policies, Besides being essential for its project of political power, it has an exclusionary, authoritarian and antidemocratic character for opposing the secular principles of the Brazilian State. This qualitative research is referenced from the perspective of Historical-Dialectical Materialism and content analysis will be used as a methodological procedure for data analysis
