"In this rhyming class I was your teacher": processes of theorization in the rap of women in Brazil

The aim of this dissertation will be to investigate the themes theorized in the songs of seventeen Brazilian female artists nominated for the Rap Tv award between 2020 and 2021. The corpus of the analysis consists of seventeen albums by the seventeen female rappers nominated for the award (see the list of artists, albums and songs in Appendix I). The themes were chosen through a content analysis, which showed the terms most used by the artists in their songs. This preliminary exploratory analysis provided indications of the most recurrent themes, but since rap is characterized by the use of symbolism, figures of speech and humour, it was necessary to carry out an interpretative reading of the songs collected to verify the suitability of the themes indicated. Finally, the analytical axes chosen were: affectivity, sexuality, financial independence, body and aesthetics and the rap scene.
