Women in delivery: peculiarities in the work of delivery women through digital platforms in the Federal District.
Delivery women; platformization of work; gender and digital platforms; digital work.
This study sought to make visible the life stories of women who work with food
and merchandise deliveries through digital platforms in the Federal District. With the advent of the
Covid-19 pandemic, the work carried out by app delivery people became essential in Brazil and led
to a series of studies on the topic. Being the majority, the male population began to take center stage
in the news, studies and discussions surrounding the subject, and this resulted in the invisibility of
the women who make up the category. There are still few studies on delivery women using apps in
Brazil. Therefore, in this research, I chose to follow the female collective of delivery women called
“Moto Brabas”, started in a Whatsapp group in mid-2023. Given this, the research efforts were
directed towards discovering the profile of the women, what are the specificities that permeate the
dynamics of the work carried out by them and under what conditions this work occurs. To achieve
the objectives of this investigation, I used the tools of qualitative research of an ethnographic nature,
using data collected through in-depth interviews carried out with these actresses. Data analysis and
discussion were carried out based on the interpretative clues developed by theorists of the Sociology
of Work and Gender Studies. Finally, the results point to a predominance of black and peripheral
women who, for the most part, do not have a support network for caring for people and carrying out
domestic tasks at home. As a consequence of the lack of assistance (from the State and families),
women still need to face daily obstacles in accessing the city, along with the articulations of gender,
racial, sexual orientation and class oppression to guarantee their permanence in the platformed work
which, in most cases, becomes the sole or main income of these workers.
