SUMMARY:

This paper aims to analyze the Latin American modernization process in Darcy Ribeiro's thought, based on the intersection of his book "Estudos de Antropologia da Civilização" and the novels "Maíra" and "Utopia Selvagem". In this way, we intend to investigate if and how the issue of the sociological debate of modernization produced an image about Latin America, which, based on the Ethnic Transfiguration idea, would have found its literary representation in Ribeiro's novels. Our hypothesis consists in trying to unveil the points that connect his transition from the sociological to the literary field, and if a construction about Latin Americanity was made through this interaction.
