Denialism and ecological risks: a systemic perspective
Denialism; post-truth; social media; social systems theory; social acceleration of time;
This research aims to describe denialism - especially that in relation to ecological risks - from a perspective of the theory of social systems. In this thesis project, we developed an introduction to the history of denialism and its current problems, as well as a review of the bibliography focused on the theme of risks (and its denial) since the 1980s. We then present the methodology used - second-order observation - followed by an initial argument about systems selected for their resonance relevance in relation to denialism, namely: the mass media, social media and the neoliberal economy. At the end, we point out what we expect for the next steps of the research, namely: i) the descriptive deepening of the resonance of denialism, with regard to ecological risks, in each of the mentioned systems and; ii) add to the scope of the research the political system and, emphatically, the subsystem of law to examine the decision-making path that is being designed to contain denialism at the local and global level.
