SUMMARY:

This work refers to the initial chapters of a doctoral thesis, presented for the qualification examination. This inaugural chapter aims to analyze the concept and context of the coinage of the term intersectionality, as well as to point out criticisms of its application in the Brazilian context. The central theme of the thesis is to investigate the theoretical tensions regarding intersectionality, especially in Brazil, which requires attention to its historical and social particularities. A literature review was used as the methodology, with the objective of identifying the main arguments and perspectives related to the theme. The expected result is the construction of a theoretical framework capable of understanding intersectionality beyond the gender-race-class triad and centering it on Brazilian reality, avoiding the adoption of arguments and perspectives that were constructed in a different social context.
