SUMMARY:

This project investigates urban writings – especially pichação – as practices of
meaning-making and city reinvention. I aim to understand how women and gender-dissident individuals
who produce these marks perceive the city and perceive themselves within it. I explore the hypothesis
that such practices configure sensitive cartographies of resistance, in which individual and collective,
aesthetic and political, intimate and urban dimensions intertwine.
The proposal emerges from a research path initiated in my Master’s dissertation, in which I analyzed
feminist pichação in Goiânia and its possible role in the generational transmission of feminist ideas.
Now, I intend to approach the producers of these writings more closely and to expand the scope towards
other territories, particularly Aparecida de Goiânia and Ceilândia. Both spaces, historically marked by
exclusion in relation to the planned capitals of Goiânia and Brasília, have become fertile territories for
aesthetic and political experimentation. They reveal the limits and contradictions of modernist urban
ideals while offering cracks and openings for invention and resistance.
The dialogue with authors such as Conceição Evaristo, Leslie Kern, David Harvey, Donna Haraway,
Glória Diógenes, Alice Dote, José Guilherme Magnani, and Mariza Peirano grounds the theoretical and
methodological path of this research. The notion of escrevivência is central, as it enables the
interpretation of these inscriptions as narratives of lived experience that, by emerging in public space,
affirm presences and confront erasures. I also draw on urban ethnography as practice and experience to
propose an approach that privileges listening, accompaniment, and coexistence with these practices and
subjects.
Thus, rather than classifying or separating typologies of writings, this project seeks to interpret them as
forms of symbolic and material occupation that challenge the ideal of the modern city and announce
other possible ways of inhabiting and reinventing the urban.
