SUMMARY:

The research Scientific Progress and Its Ethical Dilemmas explores the complex interactions between science, technology, and society, focusing its analysis on the ethical and legal responsibility of scientific and technological development within the framework of human rights, specifically the right to science in Colombia. In this context, the ethical, social, and political consequences of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, and their impact on the reconfiguration of power relations and inequality are discussed. The thesis argues that these technologies can both enhance and threaten the foundations of democracy and collective well-being. The study is organized around understanding the role of science and technology as human rights and their responsible implementation. One of the main focuses is to analyze how technological innovations, despite their potential to advance knowledge and efficiency, pose significant challenges that require careful management and appropriate regulations to prevent negative consequences such as privacy erosion, the amplification of inequalities, and political manipulation. The methodology employed includes a qualitative and exploratory analysis based on case studies and a comprehensive review of relevant literature, providing a detailed framework for evaluating current policies and practices. The research leads to the consideration that science should not only pursue technical progress but also promote a fairer and more equitable society, emphasizing the need for an ethical approach to technological development. Finally, the study highlights the importance of integrating ethical and human rights considerations into science and technology, proposing governance frameworks that ensure scientific advances contribute positively to human well-being and the preservation of democracy, especially in vulnerable contexts such as Colombia.
