This paper examines the limitations of using racial self-identification to access racial quotas in the Brazilian electoral system. It explores Brazil's historical context of racial inequality, where Black Brazilians have faced exclusion and marginalization, and how affirmative action, grounded in the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil, aims to address these disparities. The thesis offers a critical reflection on the implications of racial identity self-designation in the quota system, recognizing its impact on the political and economic advancement of Black Brazilians and the ongoing challenges in the fight for equality within the legislative context.
