SUMMARY:

The aim of the thesis is to analyze the relationships between neoliberalism, world and local politics and agribusiness developed in the Amazon and in Acre. Initially, the importance of understanding the historical aspects that permeate the Amazon region was observed, in order to understand the advance of deforestation from the 1990s, a period when neoliberal policies began to be implemented in Brazil. After the decline of the second rubber cycle, economic alternatives began to be thought of for the region, with emphasis on projects implemented by military governments with the purpose, according to them, of occupying to protect the Amazon region, among the projects we can highlight the construction of highways in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, causing deforestation and real estate speculation in the surroundings, the purpose was to make room for pastures and benefit agricultural enterprises, later part of the pastures were replaced by corn and soybeans, allowing agriculture to advance in the current time. Still in the 1990s, a development model emerged in Acre that conserved the potential of the forest and guaranteed the sovereignty of its peoples in a sustainable way, Florestania had this purpose, however, for more than two decades, even receiving great national economic incentives and international, the model was not able to substantially change the economy of Acre, which unfortunately remains ranked as the second poorest state in the federation. The research will be carried out from bibliographical references, official documents and the observation of a community affected by the advance of neoliberal policies in the region. Finally, one of the objectives of the thesis is to present possible alternatives to protect the Amazon rainforest and ensure sustainable economic development in the region.
