SUMMARY:

The work consists of verifying the degree of importance attributed to teacher training within the best stricto sensu Postgraduate Programs in Law (PPGD) in Brazil, as assessed by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). To this end, the methodology consisted of analyzing the standards and evaluation metrics intended for higher education and PPGD, in addition to recovering the academic panorama presented to regulatory bodies or published by each of the PPGD studied in the last three evaluations (period 2013-2022). The hypothesis is that there is a historical concern about Law student training in the country being “adequate” to reality, however, when it comes to the people who need to prepare these future Law professionals, andragogical training has not received the same relevance at a structural-normative level, as provided for in the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (1996) and in the opinion that created the contemporary stricto sensu (1965). To this end, we seek to identify whether these Programs are committed per se to developing a qualified student body for society – not only in their core area (Law) – but in the andragogical training of stricto sensu Postgraduate students, thereby enabling greater dialogue with new generations to be able to identify needs and translate advances in this field to society or whether they are simply focused on the evaluative indices of their regulatory body. As a result, we wish to develop self-criticism, enabling new reflections, both on the type of professional we wish to train and on the situation in which teaching, from the perspective of teacher training, has been placed in the background, a condition that could be changed through the resizing of current regulatory standards, combined with an improvement in legislation, simultaneously obliging and encouraging the Programs
