In the context of the internationalization process, by facilitating intercultural communication, fostering innovation and knowledge advancement, and also increasing institutional visibility, institutional translation is a necessary tool for higher education institutions. This study, which fits into the scope of translation studies in the institutional context, considering the globalization and internationalization processes, seeks to describe the structures and dynamics of institutional translation at the University of Brasília (UnB), presenting examples of university sections that develop activities which contribute to the internationalization process. UnB was chosen as the setting of this study due to its relevance in the Brazilian and international higher education system. To achieve the purpose, the study focused on the collection and analysis of primary and secondary data. The results reveal that institutional translation is a strategic practice for the university, resulting from a collective effort among its sections, and requires governance and structuring to optimize intercultural communication and to achieve the goals of the university's internationalization process. Moreover, there is an urgent need for the adoption of structured policies by UnB, with a focus on translation, that consider the entire cultural and linguistic diversity present in the institution, as well as greater investment in specialized human resources.
