courses – bachelor's degree from federal public universities in Brazil.Interpretive Competence, Interpretation Studies, Training, Libras, Sign Language Translator and Interpreter.
This study, conducted within the research line Translation and Sociodiscursive Practices of the Graduate Program in Translation Studies (POSTRAD) at the University of Brasília (UnB), aims to analyze the acquisition of interpretive competence(s) during the training of sign language interpreters and translators (TILS) in the undergraduate programs of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and Portuguese Translation and Interpretation offered by public federal higher education institutions in Brazil. To achieve this goal, we will contextualize and situate the disciplinary field in which the research will be developed; define and present the concept of curriculum; review theses and dissertations on the topic of competencies; identify the undergraduate programs focused on training sign language interpreters and translators at public federal universities and institutions in Brazil; and examine the curriculum matrices of these programs, specifically focusing on the courses related to Interpretation and Interpretation Studies. The structure of the research is divided into five chapters. Chapter one provides a historical overview of the relevant disciplinary fields, including Translation Studies, Interpretation Studies, and Translation and Interpretation of Sign Languages. In chapter two, we will discuss the concepts of translation competence, interpretive competence, and interpreter competence, with a focus on TILS professionals, followed by a literature review on the subject. Chapter three addresses the formation of TILS, highlighting the evolution of legislation and the current landscape for training these professionals. In chapter four, we will conduct a survey and analysis of the curriculum matrices of the undergraduate programs, considering the concepts of interpreter competence and interpretive competence, as well as aspects related to the institutionalization of the programs and professional practice.
